Peanuts and liver cancer

I just read this amazingly eye-opening book called The China Study.

It talks about why there were so many Filipino kids were having liver cancers. Apparently, Filipinos from poor families and their kids were encouraged to eat peanuts and peanut butter (PB) because it was a cheap protein. The problem was that peanuts often were contaminated with a fungus-produced toxin called aflatoxin. In a factory, they found that the workers will scoop up the whole nuts that were good and use to sell as premium nuts. The bad nuts that had aflatoxin were put aside to make PB. So when small children lots of PB, many of them contracted cancer.

That’s not all.

Apparently, kids that ate more meat AND aflatoxin had a higher chance of getting liver cancer than those who ate less meat. So what happened then was that the rich kids had a higher chance of getting cancer than the poor ones.

Scary stats huh?

Moral of the story? I don’t know, make your own peanut butter?

It’s actually very simple to make and here’s the recipe for it.

Homemade Peanut Butter

Ingredients:

2 cups shelled peanuts
2 Tbsp. vegetable oil that has no heavy scent
1 Tbsp. honey or sugar to taste

Method:

Roast the peanuts in a frying pan with low heat until it smells fragrant. Cool it.

Place the peanuts and honey in a food processor, and process for 1 minute.  Use a spatula to loosen mixture from the sides of the bowl if it’s sticking.  Then continue to process while slowly drizzling oil into the mixture for another 2-3 minutes, or until the mixture is smooth, thick and shiny.  (Nuts will go from a rough chop, to finely ground, to a thick paste, and then finally a shiny, smooth peanut butter.)  Remove and store in an airtight container, and refrigerate.  If mixture is too thick and cool when you’re ready to use it, simply place the container in a warm water bath, or pop your needed amount in the microwave microwave to warm and soften it up.

For those who are looking for a healthier alternative or is allergic to peanuts like my son, try  making homemade raw almond butter. The recipe’s below.
Homemade raw almond butter

Ingredients:

2 cups of raw almonds soaked in water overnight
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
2 tbsp honey

Method:

Strain the water from the almonds and place into the food processor. Blend on high until it reaches the consistency that you lie. From time to time, stop the food processor and push the almonds down from the sides of the bowl to make sure all of it gets ground up.

Add the cinnamon, vanilla and honey at any time. Remove and store in an airtight container, and refrigerate. It won’t last as long as the roasted PB. Some say it can keep for 4 months, but why keep food for that long? I’d rather consume everything up within 4 weeks or less. Otherwise, you can just freeze up extra almond butter if you can’t finish it within a certain period.

How to Get Cancer: Move to the United States

lilyallenThat’s Lily Allen the singer. Not a pretty picture!

The risk of cancer for Hispanics living in Florida is 40 percent higher than for those who live in their native countries, a puzzling new study finds.

The finding holds even after researchers corrected for the increase detection rates in the United States. And access to health care did not make things better.

“This suggests that changes in their environment and lifestyles make them more prone to develop cancer,” said Dr. Paulo S. Pinheiro, a researcher in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

The results are detailed in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.

Cancers of the colon and rectum among Cubans and Mexicans who moved to the United States was more than double that in Cuba and Mexico. Lung cancer among Mexican and Puerto Rican women living in Florida was also double the rates in their countries of origin.

Other cancer rates that were higher in the states:

* Tobacco-related cancers among Cuban men.
* Liver cancer among Puerto Rican men.
* Cervical cancer among Mexican women.

The findings also show that different ethnic groups face different risks.

“Don’t assume that all Hispanics are the same,” said Amelie G. Ramirez, director of the Institute for Health Promotion Research. “Physicians should probe Hispanic patients more on their background and family history to identify any problematic behaviors that could contribute to health problems.”

The causes of cancer are myriad, from inherited propensities to viruses to a range of environmental factors and lifestyle choices.

Ramirez, who was not involved in the research, notes that nearly one in every three U.S. residents will be Hispanic by 2050.

In a statement from the American Association for Cancer Research, Ramirez and Pinheiro both suggest Hispanics avoid adopting unhealthy lifestyles that may be more common in the United States, such as smoking, drinking and bad diets.

Funny thing that happened

A few days ago, my children’s nanny, Ika, passed a beef dish over to the neighbor’s maid, also named Ika, who has not eaten meat in 2 years. Apparently, the family she stays with are very strict vegetarians. They don’t even eat onions and garlic.

Anyways, after she ate the beef, she broke out in rashes! It could only mean one thing. She’s allergic to beef !

Beef is an integral food for Indonesians, just like beef is something Americans eat all the time, like beef steaks and hamburger. So she’s going to have a hard time when she goes back home.

The problem is, she was never aware that she was allergic to beef …. at all. So it’s something good for her to know. Unsuspected allergies can cause multiple problems in the body if it’s not removed from the system. The body will try to fight the allergy, and the cells in the body will remain inflamed when it’s sick. And a sick body can shut down. The body will try to tell us something when it’s sick. You may get stomachaches, or maybe liver problems, maybe headaches, or worse cancer.

A lot of people have allergies, but they are not aware of it. And get surprised when they fall ill.

So listen to your body now. Don’t wait until there’s something seriously wrong before you act.

Do You Have Parasites?

Some parasite problems may result in some of these symptoms.
Do you have them?

- foul smelling bowel movement issues

- suffering with chronic illnesses which doctors say have no cure or they don’t know what caused these problems?

- poor colon health

- urinary urgency for years…getting up as many as six times in one night.

About 90% of the human population has some sort of parasite, one time or another. Consider this. Flu bugs are parasites. So are bacteria. A lot of parasites are microscopic. Others like the tape worm can be between 3 feet or even bigger! Many of these parasites causes familiar problems like those above.

A lot of medical practitioners now believe that bad parasites can cause imbalance in the body, and one of the results is cancer. The cervical cancer, for example is caused by human papilloma virus. Which is why, it is important to stay healthy, making sure parasites do not overtake your body. You should try to get rid of parasites.

Warning, what you are about to see may disturb you!

Intestinal Flukes

Here’s how you check your stools to see if you have anything weird coming out from your body.

1. Sit a fine plastic wire mesh bowl on the toilet seat
2. Poop into the plastic bowl
3. Slowly rinse the poop with running water, while stirring the “shit” (so to speak) with a disposable chopstick
4. Look at the remains of the poop and compare it with the pictures in this blog
